FAQs

  1. What are the Build with Celo hackathons? Build with Celo Hackathos is a series of 6 monthly hackathons starting 04/01/2024. In general, we have 17 days of hacking, 1 week of judging, and a week break between the next one. The prize pool of 10k cUSD by Celo per month + additional prizes by 2 - 3 partners. The focus of all of the hackathons lies in building for MiniPay (2 users on 03/16/2024).

  2. What is MiniPay? MiniPay is a super light, stablecoin-based, non-custodial wallet inside the Opera Mini browser that allows you to send and receive funds instantly using just a phone number.

  3. Do I need to pay any money to register for the Hackathon? No. You do not have to pay anything to anyone to register yourself for any Hackathon on HackerEarth.

  4. Do I need to have any specific qualifications to be a participant in the Hackathon? If you love to code or build amazing applications, you are more than welcome to participate in the Hackathon.

  5. How do I submit what I have made for the Hackathon? Please check the submission Guide.

  6. Do we need to have the entire idea fully working? The entire idea does not need to be fully implemented however, the submission should be functional so that it can be reviewed by the judges.

  7. How is the environment? Will your environment support any language? Will you provide any IDE and DB for us to work on ideas? You have to develop the entire software application on your local system push it to GitHub and submit the link to the public repository on HackerEarth along with instructions to run the application and source code.

  8. Does one have to be online and available for the entire duration of the Hackathon? No, one does not need to be logged in on HackerEarth or be online for the entire duration. You can develop the application on your local system based on the given themes and then submit it on HackerEarth, on the specific challenge page.

  9. Since there is no specific technology mentioned, are there any restrictions on using a number of pre-built libraries? There is no restriction to use any language, technology stack, or libraries. You can use any of them to create a web/mobile application.

  10. Do I need to give a demo for the product that I have built? Yes. Submitting a demo video is part of the submission. In case you are one of the winners, you might be invited to demo your application at a physical event, details of which will be shared with sufficient advance notice.

  11. A fully developed application needs to have a solid backend for data storage like SQL, SharePoint etc. Since its online, is it acceptable to show only the prototype of it? Yes it's absolutely fine to submit just the prototype. If you use any database like MySQL or PostgresSQL you can also submit a database dump along with your submission. But in this hackathon we want you to solve Web3 problems. So, unless a database and the database API is a crucial part of your submission, it is fine to just mock it.

  12. If it is a team submission, does that mean all team members will have access to work at the same time? Yes, all team members can log in from their accounts and do application submissions on HackerEarth.

  13. Who will own the IP(Intellectual Property) Rights to the product that I have built? The developer/developers of the web/mobile application will have all rights and own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in the public domain (open source) so that it can be evaluated by the judges.

  14. I was accepted to the hackathon but can't attend the event, what do I do? Please let us know. Spots are limited and it would be nice if another candidate could go instead (and no, you cannot choose who that candidate might be).

  15. Will there be a live stream from the event? There will be a live stream for the opening ceremony of the hackathon as well as for all the workshops.

  16. Will the talks be recorded? The workshops relevant to the hackathon will be recorded and you will be able to find them on the main hackathon page.

  17. Do I get a participation certificate at the end? Yes, all devs that submitted a project will receive a Proof of Attendance afterward.
